My name is Gary Sondergaard. I am the Membership
chair of the club and can be reached at the club address info@racinecurlingclub.com if you have further questions. We have
several leagues available. For leagues with multiple times, you would
usually curl once per week at one of the times. However, it could
happen that you curl twice in a week or have a bye, depending on how many
teams we get. Our season is split into two halves ("Fall"
from early November to mid January and "Spring" from mid January
to early April.) Each team will play at least 8 games of eight ends
per half -- more if you make the playoffs except the Rookie league which
plays 4 - 6 end games. That's about two hours per game. We pick new
teams each half. If you curl here long enough, you will curl with
everybody and against everybody. There are no dynasty teams at the
Racine Curling Club! With that said, here are the leagues:
Our Mixed curling league plays on Friday and Saturday evenings. Last
Spring, start times were 7 pm Friday and 5:30 & 7:30 pm Saturday and
will probably be similar this fall.
In this league couples usually curl together, but teams may be
filled out with individual curlers.
Our Saturday curling league plays on Saturday mornings at 10:00 to noon. In
this league you may request a person or persons with whom you would like to
curl and we will try to fulfill that request.
On weeknights at 7:00 pm we have two open leagues where individual curlers
are picked by the skips (team captains) to be on their teams. One league is
scheduled for Mon/Wed and the other for Tue/Thur. If we have enough interest, the Mon/Wed
will be split into two distinct leagues – one being ladies only!
On Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30, we have our Rookie league. Teams in this
league are usually made up of two experienced and two new curlers in their
first two years. It is semi-instructional; we will stop play to
explain things to the new players as well as giving newer players the
chance to play in the skip's position from time-to-time to get a different
perspective on the game that you would not be able to get in a regular
league before curling for a few years. We still play for the
championship, but it is much more relaxed.
We also have Junior Curling available Saturday
afternoon for youngsters from 12 to 18.
Our dues at this time are:
$95 per half for curlers in their first two halves (1st year);
$145 per half for curlers in their 3rd and 4th halves
(2nd year);
$190 per half for experienced curlers; and
$50 per year for juniors.
There is no "per league charge." That means a person can
curl in the rookie league only for $95 or that person could curl in the
rookie league, both weeknight leagues, the Saturday league and mixed league
and the total cost would be $95.
I would recommend coming to an open house or setting up
some other learn to curl opportunity where you can try the sport and talk
to me or one of our other members to figure out what would work best for
you. (click

See you on the
ice!
